The 7 Life Processes

The 7 Life Processes

    Movement

         Respiration
         Sensitivity

         Growth
         Reproduction
         Excretion
         Nutrition

Movement

Most of this is common sense. You can move around from place to place and so can most plants and animals. Animals move to:
         · find shelter,
         · escape from predators and other danger,
         · find food,
         · find a mate.

(Plants tilt or move to face the sun.)

Respiration is the release of energy from glucose or another organic chemical in our cells. Respiration happens in ALL living things.

Sensitivity is very important. How would you know if something was fit to eat if you could not smell or taste it? How would you escape danger?

Growth ------ we all do it.

Reproduction: making more of ourselves.

Excretion means getting rid of the poisonous waste products produced from the chemical reactions in our bodies. We breathe out carbon dioxide and we urinate.

Nutrition. We have to eat to provide the materials for growth, repair and to provide us with energy.

Dead or Alive?
There are seven things all living organisms
do -these are called Life Processes. An
organism is only alive if it does all seven
life processes!

The Seven Life Processes –

1. M___________ - Moving parts of the body
2. R_______________ - Producing offspring
3. S_______________ - responding and reacting
4. N_____________ - Getting food to stay alive
5. E______________ - Getting rid of waste
6. R_________________ - Turning food into energy
7. G____________ - Getting to adult size

Can you think of a mnemonic to remember these processes. eg MRS
